2. THE PLAINS
A vast, less steep, and comparatively even land surface is called a plain. We can divide the Indus Plain of Pakistan into two parts.
Upper Indus Plain
Lower Indus Plain
Upper Indus Plain: It consists of the Province of Punjab. The river Indus and its tributaries i.e. the rivers Jehlum, Chenab, Ravi, and Satluj flow in it. The Upper Indus Plain spread over from Shiwalak Hills in the north and the Salt range in the south to Mithankot. The plain is 400 to 1200 feet high from the sea
level River Indus and its tributaries divide this plain into Doaabes. They are between two rivers irrigated by them called Doaabes.
Lower Indus Plain: The leveled plain of Sindh Province starts from Mithankot to the Arabian Sea in the South. The height of the plain decreases from 400 feet in the north to only 20 feet in the south. From Thatha to the Coast of the Arabian Sea, it starts making a delta and ends up in the Sea. Here the river Indus is divided into many branches making a delta. It includes the area of Run Kutch.
3. DESERTS
DESERTS In Pakistan some areas are deserts. Although these are parts of plains due to their unique features, these differ from plains. The surface of these areas is covered with sand dunes. Winds play a vital role in making the future of these areas. The shallow rainfall is a special sign of the desert area. The underground water level is very deep. Most of the people in this area are nomads.
The famous deserts of Pakistan are as follows:- - Cholistan Desert South East Punjab
- Nara and Tharparkar Desert South East Sindh
- Chaghi and Kharan Desert West Balochistan
THE COASTAL AREAS: In the south of Pakistan there is the Arabian Sea. The coastal area of Pakistan begins from Run Kutch in Sindh and stretches westward in Baluchistan to the border between Pakistan and Iran. Its total length is about 1046 Kilometers. It consists of two parts.
1. Sindh Coast includes Karachi and Port Qasim
2. Balochistan Coast includes Gowadar Port.
